Remote Controls

Whilst employed at Philips, I was ‘Design Lead’ for television remote controls, managing & leading multiple products and product ranges.

 

 

 

Major challenges & learnings included;

- Physical and Digital UX. The world has changed considerably since I worked on these products (it was before the widespread adoption of smartphones). However, the lessons learnt in bringing physical & digital user- interfaces together into coherent user experiences can be applied to multiple categories today.

 

- ‘Heads- up’ control (tactility & ‘find- ability’)​​​ 

 

- Knowledge built- up regarding subtle tactile differences between button technologies (rubber-mat, metal done, poly- dome etc)

 

- Collaborating within multidisciplinary teams (marketing, engineering, physical & digital user experience etc etc)

 

- Materials & Finishing (metals, anodisation , PVD, chrome- plating etc)

- Designing for extremely high production volumes & low BOM/ COGs targets
