Smart TV Remote
Whilst employed at Philips Design, I worked closely with interaction designers and marketers to design and develop remote controls for internet enabled televisions (Smart TVs).
At the time (2011), our approach was to create physical remote controls alongside developing remote control apps for smart phones and tablets. I was responsible for designing the hardware solutions.
After much exploration, dead ends and lots of user- testing, we decided to pursue a double- sided qwerty remote control with ‘pointer technology’, enabling quicker and more direct search inputs than was previously possible. This provided an out- of- the- box experience for those users not equipped with smart phone technology (a surprising number of Philips customers in 2011).
